Many of our guests come back year after year. Find out what they have to say.

We bought the homes is 2000. Known as the party houses on 5th, they were a notorious rental property for years. Many friends have passed through these walls and many babies were born here, including our own. We deconstructed the homes over the years and remodeled using local wood and natural finishes. We endeavored to use reclaimed building materials as much as possible. The Bungalow, for instance, is graced with large panels of slate that once were the black boards at the old Hoquiam High School, which burned down several years ago. If you look closely enough, you will still see graffiti and students names etched into their surfaces. We did most of the work ourselves, learning as we went. Many skilled friends also have lent their assistance to our project and have left their signatures behind. The wood windows and doors in the Back Cottage were hand crafted by Dave King of Eco Woodworks here in Olympia. Other friends and family assisted with carpentry, roofing, plumbing and electrical work. These two little homes have truly been built by community.
The landscape was predominantly lawn and bark mulch when we first purchased the lot. We immediately set to sheet mulching the grass with manure, cardboard and wood chips, then gradually
filled in the space with a lush landscape of fruit trees, berries and herbs. Throughout the year much abundance is provided and you are welcome to harvest what is available during your
stay, be it flowers or fruits.
We lived in the homes for years and began to raise our family here. However, after the birth of our second child, we began bursting out of the walls and decided to move up the street to a more family-sized home.
